"Pass through the school, and let the school pass through you." These were the words that started me off on a long, really long journey in my writing career. You see, I've been writing before, since I picked up a notebook as a little girl and scrawled, "Adanna the stubborn girl." Time flew by and I was already writing factious history on African colonization. Then... I got admission to study in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. At first, I thought, this is the end of my writing career, but I was inspired by my Muse Giver to "write, write, write!" Here I am, one year later, writing. It's been a beautiful journey. It began on Feb 16, with...! TWELVE DAYS TO VALENTINE Read It was Valentine. My sis wanted us to celebrate so she dragged me (literally) to a Valentine Music Special. It was what I needed to breathe life to my Muse. Twelve Days to Valentine was inspired by the university culture which I was still new to. I loved the environment and kep

 It's Valentine's day!

"Are you ready for your presentation tomorrow?" Chenka asked me as we strolled down the street leading to the faculty of art.

"I was born ready," I said with a bold gesture.

Chenka smiled. "Really? Was that what your super alarm clock motivated you with this morning?"

"Not really," I said with a shrug. I added, "Thanks for agreeing to stroll with me."

"No p. You'll buy me meshai after this," she said and I laughed.

"No p as well. You know, I can buy you more than meshai," I said digging my hands in my pocket. She looked at me sternly and said, "Rich kid, you've started again."

I chuckled.

Cries of "Awwwn" and "God when?" rented the air suddenly.

"Hmm. Someone is doing 'parara' for his girlfriend," Chenka commented.

"Let's go and see," I suggested.

"Since when did you become an amebo?" she asked and I laughed.

"Let's take this way, please," I said taking her hand and steering her to the right.

"But this way is longer," she protested.

"I prefer it."

I led her to the familiar road I passed every morning. When we reached the spot where we first met, we found red petals on the floor. I wonder how that got there🙄

The petals formed a trail that asked to be followed. "I wonder where they lead to," I said and followed them.

"Rich kid," Chenka said sounding breathless. I didn't meet her gaze but led her to the garden right ahead.

On a small dinner table wrapped in white, with lights around it, was a portrait of Chenka giving her fabulous smile to all who cared to admire. The table was also decked with all colours of roses and wrapped boxes of gifts. A tall bottle of wine stood beside the portrait. A valentine card was pitched against it. Below the card was a pretty plate that held a neatly packaged nylon of meshai which was shaped like a heart. Enough of what was on the table.🥱

Beside it was a chair which I had set specially for Chenka. Another chair stood by the side and on it sat my friend, Sammy. He was strumming his guitar and singing Perfect by Ed Sheeran. His voice had just the pitch I needed to make even my serious Chenka emotional. "Woo! Congratulations!" a crowd of my course mates and some passers-by cheered as we arrived. I smiled and looked at Chenka. She had her hand against her mouth. I had surprised her.☺️ She looked at me. Her expression said so many things at once, "Rich kid. - Is this for real? - I'll kill you after this! - O my God! - Thank you."

She moved towards the table and examined it. Intermittently, she would look back at me with a blissful look in her eyes. Oma came forward and videoed her. Dan and my other friends told her things she laughed at and hid her face at. I stared at her and smiled. I dug my hand in my pocket. I fidgeted.

"Ah-ah, Don, come and stay by your Val's side," Oma called and everyone cheered in support. I took in a deep breath and walked forward. I stopped before Chenka. She was seated on the chair. Her eyes were on Sammy whose music she nodded to. I smiled. I knew she was just too nervous to look at me.As if she read my mind, she mustered courage and looked at me. She smiled that smile...❤‍🔥

I removed my hands from my pocket and went down on one knee. Her countenance changed with my gesture. She made a cute expression I had never seen before.💗💗💗

I brandished a ring box and waited for the crowd to quiet down. Then, when Sammy's music and the excited murmuring of some girls were all that could be heard, I opened the ring box and revealed a diamond engagement ring. (More excitement).

I cleared my throat and tried to deliver the speech I had prepared. To my surprise, I had forgotten every word of it.😩 It was a nice speech too. Very romantic.😒

I sighed and looked at Chenka who stared at me with a look of utter awe, of joy, of love. I grinned. I decided to just give her a summary of the speech."I love you," I said, and my Chenka beamed.

"Chenka, my darling, my joy, my meshai lover." I chuckled and she grinned.

"Awwwn!"

I breathed in nervously and dropped the big question, "Will you marry me?"

"Say yes!" the crowd chorused with excitement. I looked into Chenka's eyes waiting for her reply. She looked at the cheering crowd and laughed heartily. Then she stood up, told me to get up which I did, and...

"Young man," she called Sammy. "You can quit playing the music now. Guys, go home! The show's over. Oma, come help me pack these gifts. Well, what are you still waiting for? Hurry, hurry, hurry! Rich kid... Hold on. Oma, leave the meshai on the table. I'm hungry." That was how the Valentine special I had been planning for so long came to an end.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

I'm totally messing with you.🥲 Actually, she looked at me and then wrapped herself in my embrace. The crowd went wild!🥰🥰🥰🕺🕺🕺🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️🤸‍♂️🤩🤩🤩🥳🥳🥳

So, Chenka was mine at last? 😏Thank you, Lord!😁

"You're mine," I whispered as we stopped at the quadrangle of her hostel. Oma heard me and quickly took Chenka's gifts up to the room, leaving us alone.

Alone with Chenka. 😍 I pulled her to me and stared dreamily at her. Then I moved my face closer.

"Hold on, lover boy," Chenka said pushing my lips away playfully. She slipped from my grip and stared at me playfully with her hands behind her.

"Hey. I know I can't kiss Chenka, but can't I kiss my fiancee?" I asked drawing closer.

"Your fiancee? Who is that?" Chenka asked with mirth. I looked at her perplexed.

"Very funny, Chenka," I said trying to get her hand.

"I'm serious," she said blandly.

"I proposed to you a while ago. Have you forgotten?"

"I didn't say yes, are you aware?" Then she laughed at the foolish look on my face.

"What about my ring?" I chipped in.

"This ring?" She brandished the diamond in her palm. "I took it from you. I never wore it. I'm holding it for your fiancee."

"Chenka!" I groaned as she laughed.

"What?" she laughed.

"So, you're refusing me?" I asked sadly.

"Do you want an answer so badly? Come here," she said and beckoned me. I brought my ear close to her mouth as she wished. Then she whispered, "My answer is, go and prepare for your project defense."😣😣😣

She laughed heartily. Such joy! I laughed too, in spite of my suspense. Finally, I caught her hands. Carefully, I collected the ring and said as I slipped the ring through her finger, "You're my everything, Chenka."

I could hardly look at her as she smiled back. I was afraid the beauty of it would make my racing heart burst.

"My Chenka," I whispered as I drew her closer to me once more.

"I'm yours," she whispered to my delight.

"So, yes?" I inquired with a smile.

"Yes," she whispered and closed her eyes as my face met hers.

❤️THE END❤️
